Possibly the most Brazilian-sounding album in Toninho Horta's run for the US Verve label -- no surprise, given that part of the set was recorded down in Rio! And even though the rest of the record was recorded back up in New York, there's still a nice unity to the set -- a stronger adherence to Brazilian roots than before, despite the presence of some bigger names in American fusion -- like Gil Goldstein and Onaje Allen Gumbs on keyboards, and Victor Bailey on bass. There's a bit of vocals on the set, but as usual for Horta, these are kept mostly to a minimum -- and often used in an instrumental sort of way. Titles include "Party In Olinda", "Afternoon In Thailand", "Moon River", "Akiko's Song", "Tecno Burger", "Where Are You", and "Foot On The Road". © 1996-2008, Dusty Groove America, Inc.
