Some people may want to get the Win7DSFilterTweaker too
I use it by checking every option in the Codec Tweaks section to disable pretty much all video related built-in to windows decoding stuff.

Then i use Icaros the thumbnailer and LAV for it\'s splitter + audio/video decoding
I use Windows 7 x64 and Windows Media Center (w/ WMP x64) for downloaded TV or Movies.
This should all work for Windows 8 i assume too..

I have tested hardware acceleration with Intel, AMD and Nvidia GPU\'s works great !
Doing this gives you more options and high quality video playback :)

I even created an Xpadder Profile for my Logitech Gamepad that is for Windows Media Center but also controls windows with the mouse mapped out etc.
I uploaded Xpadder before ;)

So rather than using a codec package you can install LAV and disable the built in video stuff on windows and play EVERY format you can imagine with high quality !
