The Manifest of this rls is a blog post from Carlo Daffara here[1] & here[2];
in his post Daffara stated that the <<process of closing down is accompanied\\
by the claim that: “the current governance structure for the Symbian platform\\
– the foundation – is no longer appropriate.”>> this is, currently, not a
satisficing motivation for the close down.

The lack of success of the Symbian OS being opensourced is imputable on the
fact that the consortia base system need to give back something to the
comunity that will be involved into the developtem and deployment of the
project: the fact that Nokia opened Symbian because the porting effort
was beyond they possible cost is a fact and it\'s appurated[3]; a part
from all of that the problem is not that Nokia tried to use the comunity
and the Consortia mecchanism to achieve goals that cannot afford.

Another, big, problem is the lack of focus in the opensourcing of Symbian
as Daffara explain well:

\"Another problem was focus. More or less, anyone understood that for a
substantial period of time, Symbian would be managed and developed mainly
by Nokia. And Nokia made a total mess of differentiating what part of the
platform was real, what was a stopgap for future changes, what was end-of-life,
and what was the future.\"[4]

the question is \" Who would invest, in the long term, in a platform
where the only entity that could gain from it was not even that much committed
to it?\", the answer if the Symbian failure as an OpenSource OS.


The intent of this release is to be useful for others, or at least become
a nice historical artifact.

This release is a copy of the repository available at sourceforge[5].
That is a substantial, massive archive with all Mercurial additions,
it amounts to 6.1Gb, Bzip-compressed.
The sourcecode is not modified nor changed and it remains under
its original licenses.

The tree layout of the rls is the following:

- untar && ungzip (tar zxvf sf-scdk.tgz)
