The application worked well in our testing, finding not only recently deleted files, but also items without a name or path. File Scavenger has a straightforward interface that lets you execute all operations without going to the main menu. You can restrict searches by defining disk sectors and filename masks. Found items are displayed as a list or in a folder tree. File Scavenger recovers not only files, but also folders when it can so you won't have to arrange thousands of files manually. It doesn't have a built-in file viewer. The program doesn't take many resources and can easily run in the background. The major drawback is that it can't run without Windows. If you have multiple volumes on a Windows computer, File Scavenger seems well worth the download.
