ZipIt Z2 - Development Virtual Box
assembled by: Ray Dios Haque on 9/27/2009
This is a "development box" to assist in compiling software
for use on a ZipIt Z2 from ZipIt Wireless. It should save
you the time of installing an operating system, installing
scratchbox, and then configuring everything to work. Simply
unpack, install VirtualBox, and go to work.
This was compressed very tightly, and will unfold to just
under 5GB of space. Because the compression ratio is so
high, it will take some time to decompress. Use this time
to do something great for your community or catch up on some
light reading.
INCLUDED:
- VirtualBox v3.0.6 installer for Windows.
- Debian v5.03 VirtualBox Image.
- Scratchbox installed and configured for the Z2 using the
instructions from this URL:
http://linux.zipitwireless.com/wiki/Scratchbox
- ssh is installed, with the virtual NIC configured as a
bridged adapter with DHCP. It should grab an address off
of your network when you boot. Then you can remotely
connect to it if you wish.
USERNAMES/PASSWORDS:
- Log in with zipitdev and a password of 'password' (without
the quotes).
- The zipitdev user can sudo!
- The root user password is also 'password'.
- Consider changing these passwords to something better, or
stay off of the network.
To Use:
1) Unrar everything to a folder of your choice. You will need
a rar utlity. You can get WinRar from www.rarlabs.com.
2) Install VirtualBox from VirtualBox.org, or use the included
installer for Windows. VirtualBox is free.
3) Move the unrar'd folders into the location which you chose
during the VirtualBox installation. The default path is
C:Documents and Settingsyournamehere.VirtualBox if you
are running Windows XP. For Vista/Windows 7, look for the
c:Usersyournamehere.VirtualBox folder. Make sure you move
NOT copy. A move takes seconds. A copy would take another
hour of your life away from you.
4) Start up VirtualBox. Consider raising the amount of RAM if
you have it to spare. I set it pretty low (256MB).
5) Start the Zipit-Dev VirtualBox. Log in. Open Terminal.
Type scratchbox, then Enter. Start compiling your software.
Share it with the world. Profit.
