Verhaal / Plot

Producer John Singleton en de bekroonde regisseur Craig Brewer vertellen het onvergetelijke verhaal van Djay, een pooier die zich afvraagt of hij wel wil doorgaan als souteneur voor de sexy Nola en de onderhouder van de zwangere Shug. Pas als hij via een deal een keyboard in zijn bezit krijgt en zijn oude schoolkameraad Key tegen het lijf loopt, ziet hij de mogelijkheid om zijn droom van rapartiest te verwezenlijken en een demobandje op te nemen. Als hij hoort dat Skinny Black, een plaatselijke rapper die een succesvolle carriere heeft opgebouwd, naar zijn geboorteplaats zal terugkeren, doet Djay er alles aan om zijn stem de aandacht te geven.
Producer John Singleton and award-winning director Craig Brewer bring to life the unforgettable tale of Djay, a pimp whose gritty hustle selling sexy Nola and supporting pregnant Shug leaves him wondering if this is it for him. Only when he trades contraband for a keyboard and bumps into his old schoolfriend Key does he see a way out by laying down some tracks and fulfilling his dream of becoming a respected rapper. When he learns Skinny Black, a local rapper turned mogul, is rolling through town for the 4th of July, Djay plans for the hustle of his life to get his voice heard.
