From the notes for this 1963 release:

"[Sir] Charles Mackerras was born of Austrailian parents in Schenectady, New York, in 1925. At the age of two his parents took him to Australia, where he early embarked on musical studies. He became first oboe player in the Sydnex Symphony Orchestra, then turned to conducting. After directing opera in Sydney, he went to England, and then studied in Prague with the great Czech conductor Vaclav Talich. Back in England, he became conductor of the Sadler's Wells Opera and the B.B.C. Concert Orchestra, as well as filling numerous concert and record assignments which established him as one of the finest conductors to appear in the post-war years."

All nine tracks on this LP are magnificent performances - almost, in this listener's mind, without equal. It's presented here "as is" (without any additional equalization).
